My wedding invitations were probably one of my favorite design projects that I've ever done. Not just because I had absolute creative freedom and control but because I was able to get out of my comfort zone a little bit and increase my hand lettering skills. Not only did I design everything myself, but I printed everything myself as well.
The invitations were printed with an at home silk screen kit from Lumi.com. They were printed on 100 lb. cover stock from French Paper Co. The Thank You cards were printed through VistaPrint.com but the 'Thanks' was added by hand with a custom designed rubber stamp as well as the emblem on the flap of the envelope. I then added a little bit of texture with some embossing powder and a heat gun.
Cook for the Cure is a fundraising event that Miller Brooks hosts every year for Susan G. Komen Central Indiana. Everyone in the office splits up into different teams and cooks an entree, side dish and cocktail that fits the criteria of the year's theme. Then we host a silent auction during the event where guest's bid on items donated by clients and employees and vote on which team's food is the best.
2014's theme was 'Sandwich Smackdown', so we tried to create a vintage boxing poster aesthetic for all the signage for the event. The poster was used as a sign that was posted throughout the event and then blown up and used as the back-drop for the voting booth where guests voted for the winning team.
Fleet Feet is a small chain of sporting equipment stores located in Oregon. They wanted a full page ad that doubled as a coupon that would run in a locally produced magazine. They provided the copy, logos and multiple images to choose from for the background. Other than that I had full creative freedom.
These were ad concepts that fell under one of Gannet's commercial sites, so it required a special artist to work on them. They were designed to be printed on a glossy stock for a magazine.
Bee Window is a local window installation company. They came to Gannett wanting them to design a logo for a new bathroom remodeling division of their company that they are going to be opening soon.
Since Gannett isn't really a typical design agency, logo design isn't really a service that is offered. So rather than turning away a client they decided to open it up to every employee as an inter-office contest.
This was the logo that I submitted and it was chosen as the winner.
Festool is a high-end power tool company that design all of their tools to work together in a super efficient system. This info graphic was designed to be the inside front cover of this year's full line catalog, and it just gives a basic overview of how all the tools work together to be as efficient as possible.
Festool has three different divisions: Wood, Paint and Automotive. This is the full line catalog for the tools that they make specifically for their Automotive division.
For the most part I had free range with the layout for this project as long as I stuck to the brand guidelines.
Thrive HDS is a company that allows medical records to be networked from hospital to hospital throughout the country. They came to us wanting a complete branding. Our copywriters came up with many different names for them to choose from, and once they settled on Thrive, the design team went to work on the logo mark. This is just a concept that ultimately was not chosen as their final look, but it showcases my ability and understanding of logo design.
This is a logo that I made for my Etsy shop, Pursley Design Co.
The top half of the design is a vectorized version of part of my signature. I chose to remove the vowels from the word 'Design' in the bottom because 1. I felt that it modernized the overall design itself a little bit and 2. it helped balance the design. If I had spelled out 'Design' that I would've had to make it smaller to fit under my signature and then the signature would've been over powering and unbalanced. Without the vowels, the letters in 'DSGN' have a perfect weight and balance to the overall design of the logo.

The ads on this page are just various examples of some of the creative work I did while working at Gannett.
Each ad is for a small business and designed to be printed on newsprint. I was able to have full creative freedom on each design since they were for small enough businesses that they didn't have any kind of brand identity or design standards that I needed to follow.
Ad concepts for a new smart phone app that Beckman Coulter recently came out with that allows lab technicians to keep an eye on the progress of their centrifuge runs from outside the lab if necessary. The bottom concept is the client's final choice and will appear in a number of industry related publications.
